Both republicans and democrats ad mit that the state election today will probably decide which way Kentucky's electoral vote for president will be cast in 1912 and as a result nothing has been left undone by either party to insure a victory today There is little doubt that the winner will re ceive the smallest majority known in many years The church vote will doubtless help Judge because of the Press) Although normally Maryland is a democratic state the political sit uation preceding election has been so chaotic as to make any pre diction of the result mere guess work Arthur Pue Gorman son of the distin guished senator and democratic leader is the candidate for governor on the democratic ticket and is op posed by Phillip Lee Goldsborough as the republican nominee Gorman is very popular and there was little doubt of his election until the revelation of fraudulent voting In the democratic primaries in this city came up to injure his There is no evidence tbit Mr Gorman profited by the frauds of the democratic city machine but necessarily some of the flying mud has stuck to his garments Mr German has publicly disclaimed the perpetrators of the box stuffing but he has had an uphill fight all the way Mr Goldsborough the republican candiate for governor comes of a prominent Maryland family and has a flawless record The party has lined up behind him and is confident of victory normal demo cratic majority is about 15000 but it is considered certain that it will be reduced in election if not wiped out The race issue and the disfran chisement of the colored voters has not been brought to the fore during the campaign just closed but it lurks in the background and will hold thou sands of democrats in line in spite of all other issues Well Planned That Minnick had planned the deed well is evidenced by the fact that he had taken every precaution to succeed in his endeavors at self destruction He had tightly bound himself to the cot using a bed blanket for the pur pose The blanket was twisted rope fashion passed under the bed and then securely bound across the chest in a hard knot The man had then leaned far over the edge of the bunk and slashed his throat and in this po sition the body was found by the jailer this morning The deed was evidently done during the early hours this morn ing as the remains were cold and stiff when the jailer entered the place The opinion prevails that Minnick ob tained the razor from some person who had been led to believe that the prisoner wanted to shave He was re lieved of all pocket property when placed in jail not a
