Missoulian, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 B3 MONTANA OBITUARIES Harold F. Stanton CONNER Harold F. Stanton, 78, of Conner passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at his home. He was born April 7, 1935, in Hamilton, the son of the late Harold B.

and Frances G. Stanton. Harold entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Frederick, where he met his future wife, Jane Stanton Blackson. They married in Havre de Grace, and would have celebrated their 51st anniversary this Saturday, Aug.

31. Harold received a B.S. in electrical engineering from Montana State University. He worked for Pacific Power and Light Co. for 20 years in various locations in Montana, Wyoming and Washington.

After retirement, Jane and Harold moved to Conner. He was a member of the ARRL for 60 years St. Philip Catholic Church in Darby for 23 years. Harold is survived by his wife, Jane of Conner; his daughter, Amy and her husband Robert Nelson of Seattle; his son, Will Stanton and his wife Emily of Salt Lake City; two grandchildren, Sam and Claire of Seattle; and brothe Herb Blackson of Austin, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Aug.

30, at 11 a.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Darby with Father Jim Connor as celebrant. There will be a reception following the services at the church. The family suggests that memorials be made in Harold's name to Doctors Without Borders or to the Salvation Army.

Matthew James 'Moose' McNulty MISSOULA Matthew James "Moose" McNulty, 51, of Missoula, passed away as the result of a heart attack on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013. Moose was born on March 4,1962, in Ridgewood, N.J., to Elaine McNulty Margaret Hansen and Bernard Arthur McNulty Jr. At the age of 3, Moose moved to Wheatridge, where he spent his childhood years.

College took him to Fort Collins, where he got his undergraduate degree in liberal arts. Following his stay in Fort Collins, Moose moved to Missoula where he worked various jobs and became a regular on the Ultimate Frisbee team, the Flycoons. It was in Missoula that Moose met Joanne Marie Sutton, who would later become his wife. Moose and Joanne moved to Oregon where they pursued master's degrees. Moose received his master's in teaching at Willamette University in Salem, Ore.

On Sept. 3, 1989, Joanne and Moose were married at their home in Dallas, Ore. After living and working for a short time in Flagstaff, Moose and Joanne moved back to Missoula where Moose eventually got a fullteaching job at C.S. Porter Middle School. Moose was a beloved member of the Missoula School District as a sixth -grade teacher at C.S.

Porter for 17 years and a third- -grade teacher at Lowell Elementary for two years. Moose can be remembered for his quirky and spontaneous sense of humor with students, parents and staff. He was not only a dedicated and devoted teacher during school hours, but he loved supporting his students outside of the classroom by, attending band concerts and sporting events. Most recently, Moose spread his love of disc golf by starting Disc Golf for Kids. Moose envisioned all kids having a chance to enjoy the sport of disc golf as an inexpensive and fun way to get some exercise and enjoy nature.

Moose is survived by his wife, Joanne Marie McNulty; sons, Sean Patrick McNulty and Kevin McNulty; mother Elaine McNulty and brother Thomas Bernard McNulty. A celebration of Moose's life will be held on Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. at Pattee Canyon Recreation Area in Missoula. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the McNulty Education Fund through the Missoula Federal Credit Union.

BRIEFS BRIEFS Allen Murray Benson ALBERTON Allen Murray Benson, 68, of Alberton, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, of natural causes. He was born July 8, 1945, in Missoula to Emily and Stanley Benson. Al grew up in Charlo, and moved to Missoula where he Benson graduated from Missoula County High School in 1963. Right out of high school, Al became an apprentice mason and began working in the Missoula area.

In December 1967, he joined the Missoula Police Department. After leaving with 12 years of service, he and his wife Cheri moved to Alberton and bought the Sportsman's Bar. Al's personality shined in his time owning and operating the Sportsman's. He was known for his endless supply of jokes and one- liners, and for making sure everyone who passed through had a good time. The Sportsman's was a gathering spot for local musicians who graciously allowed Al to join in with his singing, spoons and air guitar.

The Sportsman's was also known for its fun events that Al loved to organize and sponsor, like softball games and the annual Alaskan fish fry, or even just after -hours discussions on the log bench outside the bar. Al was a tireless worker, and over the years continued to do masonry work. He was well known for his amazing and artistic masonry projects. Al helped to build many buildings, fireplaces and memorials all over the Missoula area, which will long be remembered as his legacy. Al, aka "Big Al," "Al and "Rockin' Al" was kind, and well -known for his generosity.

He would go out of his way to help a friend or stranger, and he always had song to sing or a story to tell. He had a vast amount of friends and he will be missed by many. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Emily Benson; and his brother, Phillip Benson. Survivors include his wife, Cheri of Alberton; his daughters and their families, Tanya (Monte) Mindt, Tami Benson, Tara (Justin) Whitmore, all of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Kim (Von) Dailey of Florence and Jeff (Stefany) Northcutt of Redmond, his sister, Thelma (Floyd) Olson of Missoula; nieces and nephews, Phillip (Tracie) Olson of Missoula, Lisa (Dave) Slama of Polson, Bendi (JeanPierre) Schrambach of Hayden, Idaho, Cale Benson of Missoula, Andy Benson and Adam Benson of Tacoma, along with 11 grandchildren. It was Al's wish not to have a funeral service, but rather to celebrate his life with remembrance of the fun times and stories we've all had with him over the years.

Joyce M. Cross EL CERRITO, Calif. Joyce M. Cross, 89, died at her home in El Cerrito, on Wednesday, Aug. 7.2013.

She was born to Elmer and Olive Stanley on Dec. 29, 1924. She graduated from Victor High School Cross as valedictorian and attended the University of California. Joyce married Hayward Cross, an Army chaplain, and spent nearly 20 years at various locations both in the states as well as overseas. She was preceded in death by her former husband; a son; two sisters and a brother.

Stoltenberg, 95, died Monday, Aug. 26, at the Valley View Estates in Hamilton. Brothers Mortuary and Crematory is assisting the family with services. William J. 'Bill' Burke MISSOULA Bill Burke passed away Sunday, Aug.

25, 2013, at the age of 63, after a long courageous battle with cancer with his best friend Kelly at his side. Bill was born to Donald Eugene and Lucille Burke on Jan. 17, 1950, in, Anaconda. Burke Bill attended school in Anaconda and Missoula. Bill's love for food started in 1966 where he was a cook at the Florence Hotel.

In 1968, Bill joined the U.S. Navy and embarked on a two -year journey where he cooked for his Navy brothers. Bill was honorably discharged in 1970. Bill returned to Missoula where he began his career in the tire industry. Bill worked as a tire technician and manager, alongside his father brothers at Goodyear Tire Co.

From there Bill worked at various tire companies throughout Missoula. Bill went on to try his hand at building picture frames and sorting magazines. Bill had a love for the outdoors. Camping, fishing, hunting and a simple drive in the mountains brought a smile to his face and warmth to his heart. He was one of Nascar's biggest fans, the faster the car the better.

Elvis pictures adorned his walls and Johnny Cash was heard throughout his house. Bill was devoted to his family. Never having married or had children, Bill thought of his nieces and nephews as his own. Bill is survived by his sister, Donna Kolar (Gary) of Missoula, whom was his everything; his brother, John (Sheila) whom was his best hunting buddy in the mountains and about; his brother, Ken, whom Bill took under his wing and was always looking out for; Agnes Funston (Jerry) of Anaconda whom was his favorite pasty maker; Kathleen Sewell of Townsend; cousins, Laurie Lampe Curry, Danny Lampe, and Bob Lampe whom he thought of as extended siblings; numerous nieces, nephews, great -nieces and nephews, including two great -nieces that were the twinkle in his eye Brooklynn and Samantha. He was their "Billy Boy." Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Burke and father Donald Burke.

He was also preceded by several aunts, uncles and grandparents. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Garden City Funeral Home. Please come and celebrate the life and memories of Bill.

David Hanson David Hanson, 57, of Logandale, died Sunday, Aug.

25, 2013, in Provo, Utah, from injuries sustained in a tragic car wreck. He was born and raised in Devils Lake, N.D., moved to Montana in 1972. He married his high school sweetheart, Ginger Hunt Hanson in 1975 and were blessed with two children, Bracken (Susan) and Adrina (Brett) Anderson. Sletten Construction moved Dave and his family to Las Vegas in 1983. After a wonderful 33 years with Sletten Construction he just retired on May 24, 2013.

Services will be held in Las Vegas, on Sept. 3, at 3 p.m. Harold 'Joe' Case A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, at 2 p.m. at 11650 Highway 12 W.

Svea was born and raised with five brothers and five sisters to Melvin and Julia Ann Daniels. Surviving family members include one son, Thomas Sage; stepchildren, Dale, Bob and Lisa Sage; grandchildren, Stacy (Nagle) Gow, David Maughan, Jason and Nick Nagle; greatgrandchildren, Savannah and Matthew Gow, Benjamin, Amanda, Cody, and Dakota Maughan, Jonathon, Shayden, Kolby, Isaac, Camden, Ellis and Kaija Nagle; brothers, Richard Daniels and Alva (Leah Rae) Daniels; halfbrother Pat (Martha) Daniels and half- sister Debbie (Phillip) Cook, and numerous nieces and nephews. Svea was preceded in death by her son, Steven Sage; sisters, Wilma Sage, Hazel Bridges, Lucy Standley, Thora Murphey and Tillie Legg; brothers, Lon Daniels, Gene Daniels, Carlee Daniels, and half-brother Greg Daniels. Svea was previously married to Chancey Ruport Sage. She was a machinist during World War II and later worked for the University of Montana for more than 25 years as a telephone operator.

She was an avid hunter and outdoorswoman. She was a proud activist for citizen rights and often spoke at city meetings. All who knew Svea are invited to a celebration of her life to be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Eagles Lodge, 2420 South Ave.

"Becca" Martin, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at her home. Her positive attitude, loving and caring spirit were Becca's trademark throughout her life. Even during the last 20 years with cancer her generosity and desire to help managed to shine for others to see. Becca was a master teacher to many, a terrific friend, her husband's better half and loving mother to two wonderful children and three grandchildren.

Her surviving family also includes her mother, sister, three brothers, many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. In-laws and out -laws are bountiful. Sheriff Leo Dutton says a member of the search team who helped recover Noah Pippin's body hiked back to the area and spotted the bullet, but left it in place believing it was evidence. Last week, Dutton and other investigators went to the site and recovered some bone fragments. The new evidence was sent to the state crime lab. Pippin disappeared in the Montana wilderness in September 2010 after telling his family in Michigan he was driving to California. Initial evidence indicated he died of exposure, but the discovery of the bullet raised the question of whether he had been shot.

JARDINE Wolf shot after it kills cat, chickens BILLINGS(AP) State wildlife officials say a private citizen shot and killed a wolf in the Jardine area after the animal killed several chickens and a cat. The female collared wolf was shot Saturday as it was eating one of the chickens it had killed. Formerly a member of Yellowstone National Park's famous Druid pack, the wolf left the park several months ago and had since displayed unusually bold behavior around humans. Fish, Wildlife and Parks spokeswoman Andrea Jones says the shooting was justified in part because the animal had failed to respond to efforts to drive it away from populated areas. My Brother, My Friend MISSOULA Richard William Rick," Nelson Jr. was born April 2, 1951, to Richard William Nelson and Dora Molly (Longwell) Nelson. He was the first of six children. Being the son of a military father, he lived Nelson in many different states and Yalova, Turkey. He graduated in 1971 from high school in Midwest City, Okla.

He helped move his family to North Dakota after high school. In 1972 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. He finished his enlistment in 1973 with a disability and returned to North Dakota. He met his wife in Minot, N.D., and had two children, Amanda and Brian.

He moved to Missoula in 1979 Justin Edward Lambert Lambert VICTOR Our beloved Justin is no longer physically with us. He died unexpectedly and tragically on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013. We are all devastated at our loss. Justin and his twin brother Jordan were born on Aug.

27, 1983, in Dos Palos, to Bob Lambert and Penni Lambert and welcomed to the family by big brothers, Brian Smith, Luke and Levi Lambert. The family moved to Stevi when the twins were 1-year-old. They were followed by two additional younger brothers, Tyler and Toby Lambert. Justin's life touched many people in many ways over the years. He was always very spiritually oriented and cared deeply about people.

He loved every aspect of nature and worshiped the Creator in Jeffery Lynn McCleary McCleary MISSOULA Jeffery Lynn "Jeff" McCleary, 55, left his family to be with Jesus on Monday, Aug. 19,2013. Jeff was born in Cambridge, Ohio, to Harry and Kathleen McCleary. Jeff attended Canyonview McCleary Bible College in Silverton, Ore. Jeff gained a love for God's Word and loved to read, study and teach the Greek New Testament.

After seminary, Jeff moved to western Montana, where he held several jobs including working as an outfitter in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. On Aug. 2, 1991, Jeff married his best friend and love of his life, Melodye. He embraced this widow and her three daughters with open arms. Jeff and Melodye recently celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary.

Jeff was admired for his wit, wisdom and determination. He was a great listener and nothing else mattered when you were talking to him. He was proud to have come and was there until his death. He leaves behind his brothers, Ben (Medora) Nelson of Cooperstown, N.D., Roger (Sharon) Nelson of Bismarck, N.D., and James Nelson, Burns, two sisters, Deborah (Cliff) Maier of Missoula and Shanna Nelson of Seattle; nephews, Benjamin Nelson, Dustin Maier and Ryan Nelson; nieces, Scarlet Neiter, Kelly and Anna Nelson; eight grandnieces and nephews. Also his beloved dog, Mandy, who was his greatest companion.

Greeting him in heaven are grandparents; parents and his beautiful niece, Elizabeth Nelson. Services are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at Garden City Funeral Home. Friends wishing to pay their respects may do so in a private setting at Garden City, prior to services, from noon until 2 p.m.

A reception will follow services at the home of Bernie and Claudia Wevers at 11450 Highway 200 Bonner. A very special thank you to Bernie and Claudia Wevers family for 20 wonderful years of loving support. creation. He loved music and played multiple instruments with friends and family for years. Justin's greatest aspiration was to be a pure channel of God's love to the world and for the world.

He was a deeply spiritual, highly intelligent visionary person, tormented by his own inadequacy to embody the change that Christ promised our planet. We feel an irreparable loss and penetrating grief at his passing, but look forward to a promised day of reconciliation. Justin is survived by his parents and siblings; his paternal grandmother, Betty Lambert Shorten and numerous other relatives. Justin's beautiful spirit touched many, many people far and wide. A celebration of Justin's life will be held on Thursday, Aug.

He is survived by his wife Melodye; parents Harry and Kathleen McCleary; sisters Karen (Bob) Harris and Linda (Gary) Uhler; daughters Angela (Jason) Herriot, Melissa (Alan) Riley, Megan Himber and Dani Kay; grandchildren Nick, Brett, Sean and Natalie; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Jeff will always remain in our hearts and will be greatly missed. He is in a better place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m. at the Community Church with a reception to follow.
