Saturday, May 14, 1983 Lolo-area pioneer Holmes Maclay dies Longtime Lolo rancher and community leader, Holmes Maclay, 92, died Thursday at a Missoula nursing home. He was born Nov. 10, 1890, to D.R. and Carrie Virginia Maclay at their home near Lolo. He attended grade school at Carlton and graduated from the University of Montana in 1912 with a degree in geology.

He was engaged in livestock ranching and farming in the Lolo-Florence area for the remainder of his active life. He was recognized in this area as an innovator of many improved ranching techniques that are used today. He married Ruth 1 L. Maxwell in Missoula on June 19, 1924. He was instrumental in organizing the Missoula 1 Electrie Co-op, which serves rural areas around Missoula.

He also was the first president of that organization. For many years he was president of the Carlton Irrigation Co. He also was a trustee of the Missoula County High School and the Florence-Carlton School. He was a member of Sigma Nu social fraternity. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lamar, and a sister, Helen Schroeder.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Missoula; one son, H. Bruce Maclay, Florence; one daughter, Mary Jean Delaney, Missoula; two sisters, Emily Hovet, Hamilton, and Carrie Grether, Berkeley, five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Squire Simmons Carr Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Guthrie of Holy Spirit Church officiating.

Private family burial will follow at Missoula Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Maclay, William Holmes Maclay, Ted M. Delaney, Jeffrey Ranf, Glen Maclay and David Schroeder. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hovet. John Schroeder and E.T.

Grether. The family suggests that memorials be made to the University of Montana geology department scholarship fund. Elsie Fowers Stubblefield Elsie Fowers Stubblefield, 78, a former Missoula resident who helped open Missoula's first drive-in movie theater, died of natural causes Tuesday at her home in Mesa, Ariz. She was born Aug. 27, 1904, at Omaha, Neb.

She married William Fowers in Sheridan, and they resided in Sheridan, Butte and Missoula, where they were associated with the Fox Theatre Corp. In 1946 they opened Missoula's first drive-in theater, The Mountain View, located at the site of the present Holiday Inn. In 1950, they built the State Drive-in Theatre and residential area on the 93 Strip, and were pioneers to what is, today, Missoula's largest business center. After the death of her husband, she sold her interests in Missoula and later married Norm Stubblefield of St. Ignatius.

They moved to Mesa in 1963. He also preceded her in death. Survivors include a godson, Arthur Jordan, Mesa. Graveside services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Missoula Cemetery under the direction of Squire Simmons Carr Funeral Home.

The Rev. Beryl Burr will officiate. Organ music at the graveside services will be provided by Edward Sharp. Friends may meet at the cemetery for services. Peter Paul Minesinger POLSON Peter Paul Minesinger, 73, died Thursday at St.

Luke's Hospital in Ronan. He was born on May 11, 1910, in Pablo, the son of Henry and Elise Finley Minesinger. He spent most of his life in the Polson area working as a general laborer. He was a World War II veteran, joining the Army in 1942. He received an honorable discharge in 1945.

He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Dupuis, Portland, a niece, Dorothy Webster, Ronan, and several other nieces and nephews. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Mosley Funeral Home in Polson.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Polson with the Rev. Ernest Burns as celebrant. A military graveside will follow at Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m.

Monday at the funeral home. Mosley Funeral Home in Polson will direct the services. Mr.

Bebee died of natural causes Tuesday at his Missoula home, 3538 S. Third St. W. He was 82. He was born July 19, 1900, in Red Lodge, the son of Orphenia and Horace Bebee.

He was raised and attended schools in Malta and worked in the area in farming until 1937 when he moved to the Bitterroot. He married Elsie E. Komis March 2, 1943, in Bozeman. They moved to Missoula in 1944 where he worked at the John Deere Company and later for White Pine and Sash. He retired from White Pine in 1962.

He was a member of the national and state Fiddlers' Association and was state champion in 1972 in the senior division. After his retirement, he enjoyed working with leather, riding tack, and fishing. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Missoula. Survivors include his wife, Elsie, Missoula; a son, Jim, Bridgeport, five daughters, Anna Powell, Stevensville; Ruth Charlton, Missoula; Betty Whitmore, Mt. Clemens, Jackie Phillips, Boulder, Joyce Penney, Belton, and 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Friday's graveside services were under the direction of Squire Simmons Carr Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Ranlett officiating. The family suggests memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830 South Ave. Missoula. D.

Scott McGuigan Bethuel Rholand Bebee D. Scott McGuigan, 19, a former Polson and Ronan resident, died Thursday at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, N.Y., of accidental head injuries. He was born Feb. 27, 1964, in Polson and had lived in Ronan, and most recently in Colorado, Alaska and New York. Survivors include his parents, Dave and Maxine McGuigan, Superior; two brothers, Michael, Superior, and Bruce, stationed in the U.S.

Navy; a sister, Molly, or; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Ivy Viche, Superior; and paternal grandparents, Maurice and Janice McGuigan, Thompson Falls. He was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1966. Funeral arrangements are by the Ingalls, Connell and Dow Funeral Home in Cooperstown. Burial will be in Superior and all services 1 will be private. The family suggests that memorials be made in care of Rick Seemann, branch president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Superior, for the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, or to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office, Superior, for the 1983 Summer Youth Camp.

Bonnie Jeanne Parock Bonnie Jeanne Parock, 55, of Missoula, died Thursday of cancer in a Missoula hospital. She was born on May 19, 1927, in Alamosa, to Avery and Alta Monroe. She was raised in Colorado and graduated from Englewood High School. She worked in the Denver area, and on Sept. 3, 1949, she married Walter Parock.

The couple moved to Missoula where they have lived since that time. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit and was active in church activities. Survivors include her husband, Walter, Missoula; a son, Michael, Missoula; two daughters, Debra Clotfelter, Fort Worth, Texas, and Judith Parock, Missoula; three brothers, Robert and Victor Monroe, both of Lompoc, and Art Monroe, Los Angeles; two sisters, Esther McDowell, Denver, and Doris Taylor, Las Vegas, and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Holy Spirit with the Rev.

Donald Guthrie officiating. Burial will follow in Missoula Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Mountain View Mortuary. Pallbearers will be John Clotfelter, Ed Halland, Maurice Guay, Ray Tangmo, Emmett Smith and Andrew Hornick. Ruben E. LeBaron Ruben E.

LeBaron, 87, a former Alberton resident recently of Watertown, S.D., died Tuesday in Watertown following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 24, 1895, in Butler, S.D. Survivors include a brother, Glen Hagey, Clarksville, a sister, Lucy Flattum, Webster, S.D., and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday from 9 a.m.

to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Livingston-Malletta Geraghty Funeral Home. Friends are asked to meet at 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens for graveside services.

Catheryn Michael Marceau Catheryn Michael Marceau, infant daughter of Cathleen Petty and Michael Marceau of Stevensville, died at birth Wednesday in a Missoula hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Missoula's First Evangelical Church, 5425 Gharrett with the Rev. Paul Lindley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Livingston-Malletta Geraghty Funeral Home.

In this annual event, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorer Scouts exhibit their skills, games and crafts which they have learned through the scouting program. The Boy Scout Oath will be recited by Carl Johnston. Boy Scouts will be judged on their culinary camping techniques at 12:30 p.m. on the carnival grounds, followed by a break for lunch. Indian dances will be performed by the Boy Scout Order of the Arrow, and at 1 p.m. there will be a competition logging demonstration.

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts also will participate in games of skill and games for fun from p.m. Closing ceremonies will be held at 3 p.m. This year's Scout-0-Rama is sponsored by Pizza Hut. County Republicans elect Schwanke as chairman Kermit Schwanke, retired president of the John R. Daily Meat was elected chairman Wednesday of the Missoula County Republican Party.

He succeeds Ron Fernelius, who did not seek re-election. Schwanke was one of several new GOP central committee executive officers selected in the local party's annual election at a meeting Wednesday. About 45 Republicans attended. Other new GOP officers are: Betsy Clague, first vice chairman; Warren Wilcox, second vice president; Chuck Brooke, state committeeman; Arlene Breum, state committeewoman; Bill Wagner, congressional committeeman; Evelyn Robb, congressional committeewoman; Rosie Hubbard, secretary; Ellen Johanson, treasurer. Fernelius, who took over as chairman when Darla Sadler resigned last year, will serve on the executive board in a newly created post for past chairmen.

Golf board receives 2 bids for Larchmont concessions David Guschausky and John Forbis are proposing the installation of a 12-by-60-foot mobile home at the course for dispensing beer and snacks. They would pay the Golf Board 20 percent of their gross on beverages and 15 percent of their gross on food. Kevin and Steven Stelling would install a modular building and would pay the county 6 percent of gross sales. The board will consider both offers at its next meeting Thursday at 3 p.m. in Room 204 of the Courthouse Annex.

Art exhibit opens Sunday at UM Color drawings by Dennis Voss, an assistant professor of art at the University of Montana, will be on display at the University Center Gallery May 15-28. A free public reception will be held for the artist Sunday at 7 p.m. in the gallery, located on the second floor of the University Center. Guard units to train in Idaho Units of the Second Squadron, 163rd Armed Cavalry, Montana Army National Guard, will leave Saturday for Boise, Idaho, where they will participate in two weeks of annual training. All training will be performed on Gowen Field's military training reservation.

Troop and HOW Battery are part of the 800 Guardsmen and women of the Second Squadron training at Boise.
