He began his study of this field when he was a graduate fellow in the Harvard Law School in 1935- 36 and has continued the work.

A paper he delivered before the American Assn. of Law School in New York City in 1954 was elaborated upon and published concurrently in the Minnesota Law Review for April 1955 and in the International and Comparative Law Quarterly in England. Additional writings of his on the subject have appeared in the law reviews of Yale, Harvard and Mississippi Universities and in a Vanderbilt Law Review symposium on the conflict of laws. Prof. Rodolpho De Nova of the University of Pavia, European scholar in the field of comparative conflict of laws, reviewed the Harvard and Vanderbilt articles in international 1 legal journals published in Rome.

Briggs' approach to the legal problem of an aspect of conflicts law, has attracted the interest of legal scholars here and abroad. G. C. Cheshire of Oxford University has called approach to this problem "intensely interesting and stimulating." a recent collection Readings in Conflict of Laws." published in 1956 and edited by an American Assn. of Law Schools committee, two of Briggs' articles were included.

In a section dealing with the complex "renvoi" problem, only two articles were used-a general article by Dean Griswold of the Harvard Law School, followed by a previously unpublished critique of that article's thesis by Briggs. The MSU professor has been on the faculty since 1936. After his graduation with honors from Oklahoma he earned an LL.B. with honors from the University of Oklahoma and an LL.M. from Harvard.

He attended the Harvard Law School on a fellowship that was one of eight given to applicants in the United States for 1935-36. He was elected the first president of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the American Assn. of University Professors at its organization meeting at Seattle in 1953. 'PAUPER' DIES WILMSLOW.
