Four special agents of the general land office, accompanied by an armed posse of men, started from here today to investigate the alleged robbery of valuable timber by Canadian lumbermen from the public lands in what is known as the Rainy River country in this state. These men have gone to search for the Canadian lumber tl ieves who have for many years pillaged the hinds of the northern boundary of Minnesota. The forests of white i nd Norway pine there, are reckoned among the finest, in the world. The depredations for the last vear alone are estimated at 1SO.000.000 feet. The profits of course, aro enourmous, but the complaints of the sufferers were unheeded until now.
