Pine St. LOLO SQUARES DANCE CLUB, mainstream, 7-9 p.m., Lolo Square Howard A. Lilly POLSON Howard A. Lilly, 63, of Polson, passed away on Oct. 13, 2000, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James. He is survived by his wife Midge of Polson; children Howard Lilly Lilly, Alan Lilly and Lawanda Lilly, all of Ronan; sister Mae Lofthouse of Reno; sister-in-law Estelle Lilly of California; and numerous other relatives in the Fallon, area. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Polson Veterans of Foreign Wars, with a graveside military service at Lakeview Cemetery to follow.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements are by Grogan Funeral Home of Polson. Lois M. 'Betty' Hollingsworth HAMILTON Lois M. "Betty" Hollingsworth, 94, longtime resident Hamilton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Care Center.

Lois was born on Jan. 31, 1906, in Indianapolis to Ara L. Miller and Elizabeth (Long) Miller. Betty and her family moved to Polson in 1910 and she graduated from Polson High School in 1923. She attended the University of Montana and graduated with a bachelor of arts in English from Spokane University in 1928.

Upon graduating, Betty taught high school in St. Ignatius. On Sept. 11, 1930, she married Hollingsworth Vernon C. Hollingsworth in Polson.

The couple moved to Hamilton in 81938 and enjoyed more than 65 years of marriage before Veron's passing on April 5, 1996. Betty was an active member of the community. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the American Association of University Women and the Hamilton Women's Club. Betty also served on the Rainbow Girls Board and received the Grand Cross of Colors of Award. Eastern She Star, was 50-year member a 50-year member and past president of Chapter AF PEO Sisterhood, an active member of Marcus Daly Hospital Guild, a Daly Mansion contributor, and an elder of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as president of the Presbyterian Women's Association and superintendent of Sundays schools.

Betty also served on the Alumni Council for the University of Montana and was a director of Citizens State Bank of Hamilton. Betty and Vernon traveled extensively throughout the world. She was an avid photographer and was well known for her slide shows of their experiences, many of which she shared with countless groups and community organizations. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Dr. Arthur L.

Barry of Tualatin, Jean and Judge John L. Peterson of Butte and Alene and Thomas P. Tunny, superintendent of Lahore American School in Lahore, Pakistan. Betty leaves nine grandchildren Karen Barry, Kathy Martin, Bill Barry and wife Kim, Brian Barry, Dr. Mike Peterson and wife Gay, Capt.

John Peterson and wife Nanette, Carol Jean Peterson, Nicole Robinson and husband Bill, Chad Beck, Tom Tunny Jr. and wife Hannah and Jennifer Tunny; and nine great-grandchildren Johnny Fraiser, Danny Martin, Reilly Barry, Kelly and Mary Peterson, and Cian Peterson and Billy and Trey Robinson. Friends are invited to spend some quiet time at Dowling Funeral Home in the chapel on Sunday, Oct. 15, from -4-8 p.m. A celebrations of Betty's life will be held on Monday, Oct.

16, at 9 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. The Rev. Roland will be officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Hamilton.

A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall at the First Presbyterian Church interment. The family requests that memorials be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Hamilton. Lowell Boyd Swingley CANYONVILLE, Ore. Lowell Boyd Swingley, 75, of Canyonville, was taken to his heavenly home Oct. 12, 2000. He was born on Feb. 22, 1925, to Lowell Stephen and Louella Belle (Phillips) Swingley in Lewistown and was raised in rural Montana.

After graduating from high school, he helped operate the family ranch and played in dance bands. He attended the University of Montana, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in music education and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Later, he completed several years of additional study in music and psychology at the University of Wisconsin. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the occupational forces in Germany after World War II.

After teaching in schools in Montana and Wisconsin, he moved to Days Creek, in 1962. He taught for two years at Days Creek and Tiller schools, composing their "spirit song." After 21 years of teaching in the South Umpqua School District he retired in 1985. He pioneered the band program in 1965 at the new Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, directing band for four years. He served on the board of directors for the Roseburg Community Concert Association and the Umpqua Symphony Association. His interests included gardening, team sports, fishing, needlework and St.

Matthew Lutheran Church in writing music. He was a member ofthe City, Ore. With great dedication, he quietly and visibly served his community in many capacities, especially by tutoring and mentoring young people into being and doing their best. Survivors include his sister-in-law Mrs. Durnin (Evelyn Raymond) Swingley of Days Creek, nephews Wayne Eugene and Shirley Swingley of Spokane and Kenneth Ray and Deborah Swingley of Helena; nieces Mrs.

Paul (Beulah Smart) Ziemkowshki of Missoula, Diane Swingley of Days Creek and Mrs. Tom (Lyneve Swingley) Donat of Walnut Creek, and many nephews and nieces, cousins and special cousin-inlaw Mrs. William (Rose) Woods of Great Falls. He was preceded in death by two brothers Durnin Leonard Swingley and Gerald DeForest Swingley of East Helena; sisters Mrs. Jack (Violet) Brewington of Lewistown and Mrs.

Gerald (Nellie Charbonneau) Swingley; and niece Mrs. Arthur (Betty Smart) Hoff of Lewistown. Family viewing will be from noon to 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the St. Matthew Lutheran set Church in Tri City on Wednesday, Oct.

18, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Fiedler officiating. Committal service will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens at 3 p.m., and a fellowship meal at the church will begin after the memorial service, continuing for those returning from the committal service. Savage SPOKANE Carlton G. Savage, 84, formerly of Philipsburg, passed away Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his daughter's residence in Spokane after a long illness. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Madeline, at the Spokane home; daughter Ada E. Ould of Spokane; sons Henry R.

Savage of Canyon City, Grant C. Savage of Rapid City, S.D., Floyd V. Savage of Anaconda and James A. Savage of Alamosa, 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, four great-greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct.

at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Libby Cemetery. Mary Emma Pearson THOMPSON FALLS Mary Emma Pearson, 77, of Thompson Falls, went home to be with her Lord and savior on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at St.

Patrick Hospital. She is survived by her husband Allen Pearson of Thompson Falls; sons Rodney Ovitt of Bottincau, N.D., Gary Ovitt, Dennis Ovitt, Doug Ovitt and Glen Pearson, all Plains, Tim Ovitt of Kenosha, and Jay Ovitt of Fairbault, daughters Marilyn Bergman and Lona Trockmann, both of Thief River Falls, Winifred Welty of Plains and Susan Kanklefritz of West Fargo, N.D.; sister Annie Gilmore of Minot, N.D.; brother Frank Coleman of White Sulphur Springs; 31 grandchildren, 43 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Wilfred F. Ovitt, two brothers, son Allan LeRoy Ovitt, daughter Kathleen Ann Helland and two granddaughters. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Thompson Falls. Burial will follow at Thompson Falls Cemetery. Marjorie M. Roberts MISSOULA Marjorie M.

Roberts died on Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at Village Health Care Center of natural causes. She was the daughter of Mr. Joseph Patrick Quinlan and Mrs. Lillian Johnson Quinlan of Deer Lodge, and was born on March 2, 1918, at the ranch in the Deer Lodge Valley.

She attended schools in Deer Lodge and Montana State College in Bozeman. She served from 1943-1945 in the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve. She married Wilbur Clark Roberts in Tokyo, Japan, on June 15, 1947. She is survived by her daughter Linda Roberts and son-in-law Drew Abrams of Roswell, N.M., and sister Beverly Blackburn of Roseville, Calif.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Malletta Family of Funeral Home's Squire Chapel. No services are planned. Inurnment will be next to her parents in Deer Lodge. GLASSES ST. 'Bud' Mahle ST. IGNATIUS Therin G. "Bud" Mahle was peacefully called home on Sept. 21, 2000, attera brief illness in Bandera, Texas, his wife of 51 years at his side.

He was born in Van Hook, N.D., on Sept. 11, 1925, to Thomas and Genevieve (Pettingill) Mahle, the first of seven children. His parents preceded him in death, as well as two brothers Kenneth and Dale and sister Dolores (Reese). Bud attended Anaconda schools and graduated in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S.

Marines on Sept. 16, 1944, and served in the Pacific operations. He was discharged on Dec. 22, 1945. His education and experience included a bachelor of science and master's degree from Montana State University, Bozeman; vocational agriculture adviser for nine years in St.

Ignatius; education specialist for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Crow and Flathead reservations for 10 years; and reservation officer for three years. He assisted in the organization of the Rural Fire District and became its first chairman; was a coordinator in the formation of the Ashley Creek five mile buried mainline sprinkler systems; served as a director of the Montana Angus Association; School District 28 Board trustee from 1987-1989; and trustee and chairman from 1991-1994. He was a life member of the Polson Elks Lodge 1695, American Legion 106; Senior Citizens; Good Sam's Club; MSBA; and many other organizations throughout his life. He was very active in Boy Scouts, Lake County fairs, 4-H, summer recreation programs and youth-oriented programs. The FFA "boys" were his pride and joy and gave him great pleasure in the reminiscing of the Bob Marshall Wilderness annual pack trips, classroom antics and other great memories.

In 1991, the FFA Chapter, Mission, gave Bud and Ruth the Honorary Chapter FFA Degree for service to the chapter. Bud was youthoriented and fought hard for quality education for all students in preparation for their future. He loved his family, supported their activities and had a unique, quiet and disciplined manner of getting things will be sorely missed, but the love, lessons and memories will endure. Bud also loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling, and was an avid reader. Survivors include his wife Ruth; son Todd G.

Mahle of Fort Worth, Texas; daughters Julie McLeod (Darryl) Parker of Sedro Woolley, Bonnie Groves (Bernie) Kern of Colorado Springs, Kimberly Groves (John) Cameron of Houston; four grandchildren and, one new greatgrandson, born Sept. Other survivors include his brother Neil T. Mahle of Anaconda; two sisters Devona (Dick) Wieweck of Havre and Mata (John) Campbell of Elko, sister-in-law Madilon (Kenneth) Mahle of Havre; brother-in-law Ralph (Dolores) Reese of Anaconda; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Other extended family members include Peter, Hendrick and B.J., foreign exchange students; David and Linda Bennett of Ohio, our 4-H exchange hosts in 1994; and the many local and distant lasting friendships accumulated throughout the years. Memorial services will be held on Oct.

21 at 11 a.m. at the Christian Church in St. Ignatius. Cremation took place in Kerrville, Texas. Foster and Durgeloh Funeral Home of St.

Ignatius is assisting the family with arrangements. Lynn Gustafson, 57, died on Oct. 7, 2000, at her Reno, residence. A native of Alberton, Lynn lived in Reno for the past 37 years. Lynn worked in the casino industry for over 30 years and was the public relations director for the Sundowner Hotel Casino for many years. During her retirement, she was an active volunteer for the local Alzheimer's Association.

lived in Gustafson Although Lynn Reno, she loved to come to Gustafson Montana as often as she could. Hunting season could not start without her. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Gustafson of Alberton. She is survived by her mother, Winnie Gustafson of Reno.
